Little People’s War

LITTLE PEOPLE’S WAR –Joanne Rand 1/7/16

TALE GOES ON FOREVER

OF A LITTLE PEOPLE’S WAR.

DO YOU THINK ITS HUMAN NATURE

OR WHAT THEY’RE FIGHTING FOR?

AS THE CENTURIES ROLL FORWARD

THE BATTLE PRESSES ON

AND IT’S BEEN THIS WAY FOREVER

SINCE GENGIS KHAN

DO YOU THINK IT’S HUMAN NATURE?

DO YOU THINK WE’LL EVER FIND

PEACE            OF        MIND?

PEACE            OF        MIND?

***

LEGEND GOES THERE IS A LIGHTHOUSE

STANDING BRAVELY ON A HILL

INSIDE AN ANCIENT STONE CIRCLE

OF PREHISTORIC SKILL.

RUMOR HAS IT ALL WHO SEEK THIS PLACE

ALREADY HOLD THE KEY

TO CLIMB INSIDE THE SPIRAL

AND LIGHT THE LAMP OF PEACE.

DO YOU THINK IT’S HUMAN NATURE

DO YOU THINK WE’LL EVER FIND

PEACE OF MIND?

PEACE OF MIND?

***

THE LIGHT OF PEACE HAS BEEN SHINING –

FOR EONS, IT SEEMS

DO YOU THINK WE’LL EVER FIND IT

IN THIS SPIDERWEB OF DREAMS?

WHEN THE WHITES OF OUR EYES

MEET THE WHITES OF THEIRS

CAN THERE BE UNDERSTANDING

IN THIS COMEDY OF ERRORS?

***

CAN THE LIGHTHOUSE SHINE FOREVER

WHILE WE BOMB OUR WORLD TO HELL

CAN THERE BE A FUTURE

ONLY FUTURE CAN TELL

THE LIGHT OF PEACE WILL BE SHINING

FOR EONS IT SEEMS

SOMEWHERE DEEP INSIDE US

SOMEWHERE IN OUR DREAMS

CAN THE WORLD OUTLIVE THIS TALE

OF A LITTLE PEOPLE’S WAR

OR IS IT HUMAN NATURE

CAN WE BE MORE?

WHEN THE WHITES OF OUR EYES

MEET THE WHITE OF GOD

WE WILL OUTSHINE THIS HUMAN FLOOD.

DO YOU THINK IT’S HUMAN NATURE

DO YOU THINK WE’LL EVER FIND

PEACE       OF              MIND

PEACE            OF        MIND?

PEACE            OF        MIND?

CD Lyrics, “Still a Real World,” Joanne’s Rand’s 2014 Release

Still a Real World CD Lyrics

Visualize Your Way In – Joanne Rand

Visualize your way in

Only way you can begin

Don’t sit on the dock for a boat that never comes

Come pack up your bags and have some fun

Come on, sister, begin.

Visualize your way in

Only way you can begin

From the look in your eyes I see that it’s time

You began to revise your look on life

Improve yourself, my friend

Visualize your way in

Only way you can begin

Don’t let the bullies tell you there is somewhere you can’t go

You can do anything you want, you know

Even this snail can climb my window

Don’t let the world make you afraid

Take your personality on parade

It’s just you and the people and they want to hear

What you have to share with them, my dear

Don’t let the bullies tell you there is somewhere you can’t go

You can do anything you want, you know

Don’t sit on the dock for a boat that never comes

Come pack up your bags and have some fun

Don’t let the world make you afraid

Take your personality on parade

Mr. Einstein – words by Joyce Rand

Hey, Mr. Einstein

You have granted my deepest wish

With a flick of your wrist

Time does not exist

To the light wave and me

There is no future no past

Only present

If I can just hold fast

I am a light wave and I shine

Thanks to you, Mr. Einstein

I am a light wave and I shine

Then along comes Quantum Physics

With similar wild ideas

Amazed Feinman says, “It’s impossible”

Shocked Bonne says, “Most improbable”

Only in this rhyme can I exist out of time

I am a light wave and I shine

Thanks to you, Mr. Einstein

I am a light wave and I shine

Real World  – by Joanne Rand

Still a real world here

In mists rising among these old trees

Still a real world here

In roots pushing to break through the streets

Still a real world here

In plates shifting and rattling bone

Still a real world here

In storms rising and wiping out homes

Seems this world is heating up

Beating out of synch

I won’t go speeding up

I’ll slow it down I think

Still a real world here

Outside the mesh net of fiber optics

Still a real world here

Away from the blue glow of my computer screen

Still a real world here

In the 20 second interval between satellites passing

Still a real world here

Between the commercials and the motormouth mashing

Seems this world is heating up

Spinning on the brink

I won’t go speeding up

I’ll slow it down I think

Still a real world

In a river so green my mind can unwind

Still a real world

In the silence between the car engine’s whine

Still a real world here

Ocean’s thrashing and frothing with life

My body Your body wielding the knife

Seems this world is heating up

Quicker than you think

I won’t go speeding up

I’ll slow it down I think

Still a real world here

Though insidious shackles are sucking us dry

Still a real world here

Gotta fight the good fight it’s a good day to die

Still a real world here

Real people, let’s push through the cracks

Old Magic is echoing back

Real magic, old magic, root magic coming back

Real magic, old magic, root magic coming down the track

Still a real world here

Still a real world here

Greyhound Rapture – by Joanne Rand

Today’s the day the world’s supposed to end

How many days like this one have their been

‘Nother rapture ‘nother mile guess I’ll count them in a while

The day I meet my maker and friend

Thought I’d ride the Greyhound bus to my old home

Disillusioned and footloose I roam

Characters in every seat, I’d like for you to meet

So sit back and I’ll bring ’em on.

Lucy, she’s a wild one one, can’t you see

Floor length sable coat across her knee

Applies her eyes with practiced hands, but her eyeballs dance

You can see the whites around them litterally

She wounded, she’s hounded by fear

She’ll do anything to make her past disappear

OUT ON THE GREYHOUND, HALFWAY TO NOWHERE

THE RAPTURE ARRIVES

WE’RE A SHIP FULL OF FOOLS AND ONE LITTLE DRIVER DRIVES

AND THE BUSINESS OF LIFE THRIVES

Olga carries carpet bags galore

Lugging dresses that she once wore

She’s fussy and sweet to everyone she meets,

But if you don’t watch out she’ll park at your front door

Here’s a guy who really reads his bible

He sits right next to me

For five hours straight he never lifts his face

And he’s filling the pages with pink highlight phrases

Pale young couple, Nora and Rex

Nervously sitting in horn-rimmed specs

Artsy-fartsy, almost avante-garde

But life’s been hard on their self-respect

OUT ON THE GREYHOUND, HALFWAY TO NOWHERE

THE RAPTURE ARRIVES

WE’RE A SHIP FULL OF FOOLS AND ONE LITTLE DRIVER DRIVES

AND THE BUSINESS OF LIFE THRIVES

And the driver says:

If you’re caught smoking

Or drinking booze

Your seat you’ll lose

Here’s a tall, imposing, elder man

Tribal cheif. Uncle Dan

Scarlet jogging suit and dread-locked hair

And a crown crocheted by his lady friend

This man could be president, he’s humble and fair

This man could help us all out of here

OUT ON THE GREYHOUND, HALFWAY TO NOWHERE

THE RAPTURE ARRIVES

WE’RE A SHIP FULL OF FOOLS AND ONE LITTLE DRIVER DRIVES

EACH OF US HOPING ONE SIMPLE PILGRIM SURVIVES

AND THE BUSINESS OF LIFE THRIVES

And the driver says:

If I can hear you

Then you’re too loud

So keep it down

At the city station

I swim through bodies

Midnight-colored hooded eyes

I see my sister

She too afraid to step outside

She’s hiding in her car

Jesus people!

How we gonna find the Rapture

If this is all we are.

The USA is a strange place

I’m captivated by my human race

I cannot disclaim this land I am from

Or underestimate how far we’ve come

Fall of the Kiowa – by Joanne Rand & Joseph Romero

They came to kill the Kiowa

To kill the spirit of the Kiowa

And it won’t be long before they’re gone themselves

They laid waste the Buffalo

To kill the spirit of the Buffalo

And it won’t be long before they’re gone themselves

General Sheridan what shall we do?

This vicious slaughter was started by you

He said: “Let them kill, skin & sell those hides

No longer will the mighty Kiowa ride”

They came to kill the Kiowa

To kill the spirit of the Kiowa

And it won’t be long before they’re gone themselves

They laid waste the Buffalo

30 million head of Buffalo

And it won’t be long before they waste their own head

“Extermination!” he said

“Extermination is the only way

We can drive these savages

From where they hide

No longer will the mighty Kiowa ride”

All they wanted was to live in peace

Palo Verde Canyon in the chinaberry trees

1874 in the Moon the Yellow Leaves

Comanche, Cheyenne & Kiowa

The last heard of the buffalo

A thousand ponies

And a forest of teepees

Sheridan and his Blue Coats came

Bearing down upon them on the plain

And the white man’s god rewarded him again

The white man’s god rewarded him

I want no part of a society

Where they slaughter people just for being free

And it won’t be long before it’s you and me

I want no part pf a society

Where they slaughter people just for being free

And it won’t be long before it’s you and me my friend

No it won’t be long before “Turnkey Tyranny”*

It won’t be long before it’s you and me.

“Turnkey Tyranny”* was a term coined by Edward Snowden

JOHN WALTER – by Joanne Rand

Standing in front of that Cross beamed Porch

Looking like a prize

Holding his WWI hat

By his side

I know he was a good man

By the prayer he left behind

“May the world thrive.”

Could have been his consequences,

Could have been his cane

Always placing judgement

And he never took the blame

Mirror, mirror on the wall

Who’s the most self-righteous man of all

But I know he was a good man

Just the same

JOHN WALTER, …CAN YOU HELP ME SORT THINGS OUT

I AM STANDING IN A WORLD UNLIKE THE ONE YOU KNEW

JOHN WALTER, I’M STILL HERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO

I was 12 years old when JOHN bought me

My first guitar

Must have noticed I had stars

In my eyes

That old Gibson, she wound up

Smashed to smithereens

‘Cause my first man, was pretty

Who could be …pretty mean.

John used to quote a poem to me

About a sailor in the dark

“I am the master of my fate,” quoth he

“I am captain of my ark”

Do you think it’s true? Are we each alone

with a rudder and a sail?

Master of our destiny

and a wind that dare not fail

JOHN WALTER, …CAN YOU HELP ME SORT THINGS OUT

I AM STANDING IN A WORLD UNLIKE THE ONE YOU KNEW

JOHN WALTER, I’M STILL HERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO

John used to quote a poem to me

About a sailor in the dark

“I am the master of my fate,”

“I am captain of my ark”

Do you think it’s true? Are we each alone

with a rudder and a sail?

Master of our destiny

and a wind that dare not fail

Am I the captain of my fate?

Is it too late?

JOHN WALTER, …CAN YOU HELP ME SORT THINGS OUT

I AM STANDING IN A WORLD UNLIKE THE ONE YOU KNEW

JOHN WALTER, I’M STILL HERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO

HEY GRANDPA, CAN YOU HELP ME SORT THINGS

I’M TRYING TO MAKE THE WHOLE WORLD NEW

I’M TRYING TO STEER THIS OLD SHIP

REACH DOWN AND TOUCH ME WON’T YOU?

CAN YOU HELP ME SORT THINGS OUT?

CAN YOU HELP ME SORT THINGS OUT?

BABY LOVES ME – by Joanne Rand

I thought my baby loved me but he don’t

He just thinks

I want attention

Maybe I do

Just a little

How about you

Don’t you want some?

I thought my baby loved me but he don’t

He just thinks

I want a handout

Just like those ducks

At our picnic

He’ll eat his lunch

Then toss a

I JUST KEEP ON KEEPING ON

I’LL BE OK

YOU CAN’T STOP MY RAMBLING HEART

YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY

Where would I be without my loving dad

He’s the one that I turn to

When life’s a bust

We go to Wendy’s

Sit in his truck

And shoot the breeze

Where would I be without my loving dad

You can have all those macho men

My dad’s a man I believe in

He’s the right stuff for me

WE’LL KEEP ON KEEPING ON

WE’LL BE OK

YOU CAN’T STOP OUR RAMBLING HEARTS

YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY:

SEIZE THE DAY

ALL I GOT TO SAY – by Joanne Rand

Ocean reinvents itself every day

People of the earth got to pray

Don’t get caught

Don’t get bought

We might get over this or not

Ocean reinvents itself every day

People of the earth got to pray

Don’t go manic

Don’t panic don’t stew

How ’bout you, how do you do?

KEEPING YOUR HEAD OPEN

OPEN AND GROWING

KEEPING YOUR HEART OPEN

OPEN AND FLOWING

I am a human being, you are a human being

Empathy in our DNA

That is how we’ve survived two million years on Earth

Living together in this way

Living together in this way

Ocean reinvents itself every day

People of the earth got to pray

Life on Earth could be cockroaches someday

Hey, the eductaion’s in the journey they say

I am an organism just like you

We could be just a phase that’s passing through

I want to live, I want to give, that’s true

But. hey, what can I do

KEEPING MY HEAD OPEN

OPEN AND GROWING

KEEPING MY HEART OPEN

OPEN AND FLOWING

I am a human being, you are a human being

Empathy in our DNA

That is how we’ve survived two million years on Earth

Living together in this way

Living together in this way

I want to live, I want to leave something wild and free

For my child to see

I want to live, I want to leave something wild and free

For my grandchild to see

I want to live, I want to leave something wild and free

For my great-grandchild to see

I want to live, I want to leave something wild and free

For my seven generations to see

Ocean reinvents itself every day

People of the earth got to pray

Don’t get caught

Don’t get bought

That’s all I got to say

FIFTEENTH ANNIVERSARY – by Joanne Rand

Did you ever wonder what your face would look like

If all you ever did was smile

No consternation line between your brow

I can almost see it now

Did you ever wonder what the sun would look like

If there were never any clouds

No silver lining to philosophize about

I can almost see it now

Sometimes I wonder what life would be if we never disagreed

Is it any wonder between you and me discord is harmony

Can you believe today is our fifteenth anniversary, Babe.

Sometimes life is like a lonely island

Keeping everyone at bay

Trying to protect your little piece of paradise

Hoping to hold those clouds away

But I never will live my life like that

Cause I could never stand the pain

So I put up with all your foolish ways, little darlin’

No matter who’s to blame

Sometimes I wonder what life would be if we never disagreed

Is it any wonder between you and me discord is harmony

Can you believe today is our fifteenth anniversary, Babe.

MORTIFIED BY MY MOTHER – by Joanne Rand

I’m standing in front of the highschool

Trying to look cool

When along comes my mother

Acting like a fool

I turned my head away

Hoped she wouldn’t see

‘Cause I’m mortified by my mother, that’s me

SHE WEARS HIGH WATER PANTS, ORTHOPEDIC SHOES

AND AT THE DINNER TABLE SHE TALKS WHILE SHE CHEWS

SHE KISSES ME IN PUBLIC, ACTS FAMILIAR WITH MY FRIENDS

THIS EMBARRASSING SITUATION HAS TO END

I was walking dow the street

Jiving with my peeps

When along comes my mother

And she’s driving that old heep

I turned my head away

Hoping she would shoo

‘Cause I’m mortified by my mother, it’s true

SHE WEARS HIGH WATER PANTS, ORTHOPEDIC SHOES

AND AT THE DINNER TABLE SHE TALKS WHILE SHE CHEWS

SHE KISSES ME IN PUBLIC, ACTS FAMILIAR WITH MY FRIENDS

THIS EMBARRASSING SITUATION HAS TO END

Could be when I’m grown

And living on my own

I’ll appreciate the fact that she’s unique

But now I’m just thirteen

And you’ll now what I mean

When I say that I would rather she not speak

SHE WEARS HIGH WATER PANTS, ORTHOPEDIC SHOES

AND AT THE DINNER TABLE SHE TALKS WHILE SHE CHEWS

SHE KISSES ME IN PUBLIC, ACTS FAMILIAR WITH MY FRIENDS

AND SHE SINGS HER LITTLE SONGS

AND SHE RARELY WEARS A BRA

THIS EMBARRASSING SITUATION CANNOT BE

‘CAUSE I’M MORTIFIED BY MY MOTHER

MORTIFIED BY MY MOTHER

MORTIFIED BY MY MOTHER

THAT’S ME

WHO KNOWS WHERE THE TIME GOES – By Sandy Denny (Universal Music Group)

CHAIN OF SHIPS – by Joanne Rand

Last night I dreamed a chain of ships

Your ship was last in line

Through arctic waters black and deep

Your ship began to fall behind

I reached my arm to draw you in

The vessel I was on

You leapt in faith of your own yen

to land onboard, but you were wrong

You hit the deep just inches shy

Of the rail at my left hand

I saw your body slipping down

As time ticked by, I’d understand

I THOUGHT I’D SEE YOU

I STOOD THERE WAITING

MY WHOLE LIFE STOPPING

MY WHOLE HEART BREAKING

Last night I dreamed a chain of ships

Your ship was last in line

Through arctic waters black and deep

Your ship began to fall behind

I reached my arm

To draw you in

You leapt, you went down

Never to be seen again

I STOOD THERE WAITING

TO DRAW YOU FORWARD

BUT ALL I’M SEEING

IS EMPTY WATER

I’m frightened at the loss you

Elated at your choice

To take that simple leap, my friend

I’m frightened at the lack you

Elated at your find

To take that simple leap, friend of mine

Last night I dreamed a friend of mine was

Born into the dust

In times of deepest undermine

I lack a little trust

You are a friend I know so well

And will be gone

I hear the future dreams foretell

And would they were wrong

YOU STAND THERE WAITING

YOU BODY SHAKING

YOUR WHOLE HEART WAKING

YOUR MOMENT BREAKING

I’m frightened at the loss you

Elated at your choice

To take that simple leap, my friend

I’m frightened at the lack you

Elated at your find

To take that simple leap, friend of mine

LOVE IS ALL WE HAVE

TO ABIDE THE CHAIN OF TIME

OUR SPIRITS OVERLAP

YOUR HAND BRUSHES MINE

I STAND HERE WAITING

MY WHOLE HEART WAKING

I STAND HERE WAITING

MY WHOLE HEART WAKING
